Visit of the fort of Vaux

In 1916, the fort of Vaux was shelled by almost 8,000 shells a day. Its garrison resisted and fought heroically before being forced to surrender through exhaustion. It became the symbol of the resistance of the soldiers of Verdun. A visit to the fort of Vaux will give you a sense of the unspeakable intensity of the fighting in the Battle of Verdun.

Forts opening hours:
From 5 February 2024 to 29 March 2024: open every day from 10 am to 5.30 pm
From 30 March 2024 to 22 September 2024: open every day from 10 am to 6.30 pm
From 23 September 2024 to 4 January 2025: open every day from 10 am to 5.30 pm
The three sites are closed on 29 June 2024, 24 and 25 December 2024, 1 January 2025 and from 5 January 2025 to 3 February 2025.
The Verdun Memorial will be closed on 27 November 2024. The Douaumont and Vaux forts remain open on these three dates.
Last admission 45 minutes before the closure of the Verdun Memorial and 30 minutes before the closure of the Douaumont and Vaux forts.
