In 1916, the fort of Vaux was shelled by almost 8,000 shells a day. Its garrison resisted and fought heroically before being forced to surrender through exhaustion. It became the symbol of the resistance of the soldiers of Verdun. A visit to the fort of Vaux will give you a sense of the unspeakable intensity of the fighting in the Battle of Verdun. INFORMATION: Fort Vaux will be closed for renovation from Tuesday 15 July 2025 in order to improve the comfort of your visit. The Verdun Memorial and Fort Douaumont will continue to welcome you every day.

Opening times of the Fort:
From 5 April 2025 to 21 September 2025: open every day from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm
From 22 September 2025 to 31 December 2025: open every day from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm
The three sites are closed on 24 and 25 December 2025 and January 2026.
Last admission 45 minutes before the closure of the Verdun Memorial and 30 minutes before the closure of the Douaumont and Vaux forts.
