INFORMATION: In order to improve the comfort of your visit, Fort Vaux is closed for renovation. In the meantime, the Verdun Memorial and Fort Douaumont remain open to visitors.

Visit of the fort of Douaumont

The fort of Douaumont is the largest fortification in the fortified town of Verdun. Occupied by the Germans for most of the battle, it was subjected to constant bombardment. A visit to this "giant" is an authentic immersion in the place where thousands of soldiers lived and fought. The fort of Douaumont is an emblematic site of the Battle of Verdun.

Fort Douaumont will be closed to the public on 30 September and 1 October 2025. The fort will reopen on Thursday 2 October 2025 at 10 a.m.

During European Heritage Days, the Verdun Memorial and Fort Douaumont will be open free of charge on 20 and 21 September 2025.

Discover 2 major sites on the Verdun battlefield at a special rate: the Verdun Memorial and Fort Douaumont.

Fort Douaumont will be closed to the public on 30 September and 1 October 2025. The fort will reopen on Thursday 2 October 2025 at 10 a.m.

Opening times of the Verdun Memorial and Fort Douaumont :
From 5 April 2025 to 21 September 2025: open every day from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm
From 22 September 2025 to 31 December 2025: open every day from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm

Closing days
The three sites are closed 24 and 25 December 2025 and January 2026.
Fort Douaumont only: 30 September and 1st October 2025. Reopening of the fort on Thursday, 2 October 2025 at 10 a.m.
Verdun Memorial only: Wednesday, 19 November 2025.

Last admission 45 minutes before the closure of the Verdun Memorial and 30 minutes before the closure of Fort Douaumont.
