Visit of the fort of Douaumont

The fort of Douaumont is the largest fortification in the fortified town of Verdun. Occupied by the Germans for most of the battle, it was subjected to constant bombardment. A visit to this "giant" is an authentic immersion in the place where thousands of soldiers lived and fought. The fort of Douaumont is an emblematic site of the Battle of Verdun.
The Verdun Memorial and Fort Douaumont will be open free of charge on 31 December 2025 from 9.30am to 5.30pm. No advance booking is required.

The Verdun Memorial will be closed to the public on 19 November 2025.
The Verdun Memorial and Fort Douaumont will be open free of charge on 31 December 2025 from 9.30am to 5.30pm. No advance booking is required.

From 22 September 2025 to 4 January 2026: open every day from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm

Closing days :
Verdun Memorial only: Wednesday, 19 November 2025
Both sites are closed on 24 and 25 December 2025, 1 January 2026 and from 5 January to 1 February 2026 inclusive.

Early closure: The Memorial and Fort Douaumont will close exceptionally at 3 p.m. on Sunday 14 December 2025. The Memorial cafeteria will also be closed on this date. Last admission is at 1 p.m. at the Verdun Memorial and 2 p.m. at Fort Douaumont.

Last admission 45 minutes before the closure of the Verdun Memorial and 30 minutes before the closure of Fort Douaumont.
